Giving Contractors Access Without Losing Control

Daniel Howells
Marketing Manager

Most businesses have a version of this problem.

A contractor starts Monday. They need access to a specific application, maybe a finance tool, a CRM, a project management platform. IT sets them up with a user account, probably on a device that gets couriered over or a VPN that takes half a day to configure. Three months later the project ends and someone has to remember to revoke everything.

Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't.

For businesses managing multiple contractors, agencies, or offshore teams, this cycle creates real security exposure. Not because anyone is malicious, most of the time the risk is simply that access persists longer than it should, or that a contractor's personal device becomes a route into systems that hold sensitive data.

What a virtual desktop changes

FloFVD gives contractors access through a locked-down cloud desktop. They sign in, authenticated through Microsoft's MFA , and they get a controlled environment with access to exactly what they need. Nothing more.

The data never leaves Flotek's UK-hosted infrastructure. The contractor isn't working from your network or their own device directly, they're connecting to a managed workspace that sits between them and your systems.

When the project ends, access is removed. Cleanly. No lingering user accounts, no device to retrieve, no VPN credentials floating around.

For IT teams managing client environments, this matters because the offboarding risk is one of the most consistent gaps in contractor security. FloFVD makes it a non-issue.

Logging and visibility

Every session is logged. If something goes wrong, a data question, a compliance audit, a dispute about what was accessed, there's a clear record.

This is particularly relevant for businesses in regulated industries, or those working with offshore teams where oversight can be harder to maintain. You're not trusting a contractor's home setup. You're giving them a controlled window and keeping everything else inside your perimeter.

Onboarding in minutes

The other practical benefit is speed. Provisioning a FloFVD desktop for a new contractor takes minutes rather than the better part of a day. For businesses that work with project-based teams or need to scale access quickly for seasonal work, that speed compounds.

A contractor who can start working on day one, on a device they already have, through a secure managed environment, that's a simpler setup than most businesses currently have.

Worth looking at if:

  • You regularly bring in contractors, agencies, or third-party teams
  • You've had issues with access persisting after a project ends
  • Your current approach involves couriering devices or managing complex VPN setups
  • You're in a regulated sector where access logging is important
