What is Cyber Essentials?
A UK government-backed certification, overseen by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and delivered through IASME, that shows your business has five essential security controls in place: firewalls, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection and security update management. Together they protect against the most common cyber attacks.
What's the difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials is a verified self-assessment: you answer a question set and a certification body reviews it. Cyber Essentials Plus covers the same controls but adds a hands-on technical audit, where an assessor tests a sample of your devices, accounts and cloud services. Plus has to be completed within three months of passing Cyber Essentials.
How long does it take to get certified?
Once your systems meet the requirements, the Cyber Essentials assessment itself can be marked within days. The real work is getting there. Most businesses need two to six weeks of fixes first, depending on size and how up to date things are. We'll give you a realistic timeline after the readiness check.
How much does Cyber Essentials cost with Flotek?
IASME certification and audit fees change every year, so we include them in one monthly fee. Cyber Essentials is from £130 a month + VAT, including our time to get you ready and through assessment. Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus together is £279 a month + VAT, including all external audit fees. If you're on Flo360+ managed support, Cyber Essentials is included as standard.
Do home workers and cloud services count?
Yes. Devices that access your business data, including home laptops and personal phones used for work, are normally in scope, and so are cloud services like Microsoft 365. Getting the scope wrong is one of the most common reasons businesses fail, so we agree it with you up front.
What happens after we're certified?
Your certificate is valid for 12 months, but it only reflects the day you were assessed.
